SCC beats Fokker/KLM by 4 wickets

Unfortunately Fokker|KLM were only able to man their squad with 7 players. The summer holiday season takes its toll.

Just before the match it started to rain. Both captains agreed to shorten the match to 16 overs a side and to continue playing as long as possible and the players safety was guaranteed.

Fokker/KLM won the toss and elected to bat first. SCC bowlers Mukul, Agni, Agam, AK, Sanket and part time bowler Rathnakar did a good job to contain the Fokker\KLM side to a total of 56 runs in 16 over’s.

The continuous rain didn’t stop the game but made it very slow.

SCC started their inning very slow. Opening batsmen Jai and Ravi played sensibly and scored 7 & 3 runs respectively, with a partnership of 12 runs on the board. SCC lost some quick wickets, Rathnakar out for a duck, Senthil played a couple of good shots but got caught out at square wicket, Agam contrary to normal practise was bowled quite soon, but his overall contribution to the team was excellent. Agni as usual was the in form batsman for SCC. He played some good cricketing shots and scored 14 runs.

Sulabh who had come in on number 4, played a sensible unbeaten inning. He played the anchor role for the SCC innings and scored 8 runs with AK at the end. The shorthanded Fokker\KLM opponents bowled and fielded very well and gave SCC a real run for their money. In the end SCC managed to reach the required target of 57 runs.

The joy of SCC's first ever two consecutive wins, was a little overshadowed by the fact that the Fokker\KLM team was severely handicapped by being so shorthanded.

We are grateful to HBS to accommodate us at such short notice. Specially the Secretary of the Cricket Board, Mz. Marieke Hommels, who kindly hosted the third innings. All were pleasantly surprised by the excellent quality of the catering which was performed by Kashmir from the Javastraat. The third innings too was played in the spirit of the game and an extremely pleasant affair. It is good to have an "own" home to play our matches in future.

Marius, Julian and David send their compiments and congratulations from their holiday address.

Opa Paul is there too, very busy as usual. Don't forget the training session on the 9th!
